March 2019 Newsletter
The Patchwork & Quilting Group started its humble beginnings in the summer of 2018 with a small number of members meeting at the group leader’s house. However, word soon spread and our small number very quickly multiplied!! In October we moved the meetings from Mary’s cosy kitchen to the Pearson Centre, where we meet on the second Monday of each month between 10.00 am – 12.00 noon.
Our September/October project was making a place mat or play mat using the technique of English Paper Piecing. In November/December we tackled origami patchwork wreaths and Christmas trees in (yes who would have thought – see photo for a selection of our finished work).
Our first project for the New Year was to expand our repertoire to simple blocks, which will be made up into a cushion or tote bag, or for the more industrious amongst us, a bed quilt.
Hand and machine quilting are both on the agenda so that we can experiment and create a whole range of items. At each meeting members volunteer to give a brief talk/presentation on a specific technique or a demonstration pertinent to the task under construction, (e.g. use of equipment, colour wheel, cutting and piecing techniques, machine quilting to name a few).
Some members bring along their own projects to work on. We all enjoy the convivial atmosphere and social interaction whilst being creative and learning from each other.
The group is currently at full capacity, but if you are interested we can add you to the waiting list.
