Meetings have recently included such topics as recommending shrubs to grow in our gardens, when to plant or move perennials, taking softwood cuttings, greenhouse care and plant diseases. Our Group continues to be popular and we have recently welcomed some new members.

In October we joined with the Garden Visits Group and held a ‘Gardeners’ Question Time Session with a panel of four experts, two from each Group answering questions that members had submitted. It proved to be a popular meeting and we all learned a lot from it.

In December our Group had a ‘messy’ morning but a real fun one, when we brought in greenery and decorated Christmas wreaths which had been sold to our members the previous month. What a mess we all made but the results were spectacular!

We are trying to have a practical session whenever possible as well as considering what needs doing in our gardens every month. We hold group discussions from time to time where we share ideas and learn from one another and we also cover a particular topic each month. Do come along and join us if you would like to do so. The Practical Gardening group has been running very successfully for just over a year. We meet at 10 a.m. on the third Monday of each month in the Wesley room. For part of each meeting we try to address topical issues each month. We have covered subjects as diverse as plants for shady borders; dividing up perennials; pest control; planting up a hanging basket; reshaping a garden etc. We are all keen gardeners in this group. However, some of us are just beginners but fortunately we also have some very experienced gardeners to help us. In all our meetings we encourage discussion and a sharing of ideas. We also make the meetings as practical as possible with demonstrations and invariably a plant swop. Do come along and join us if you would like to do so. You can contact me on 9287643 or mrichardson14@hotmail.com
